History

Founded in 1998 by Dr. Yana Bland and many others, Katherine Anne Porter School was established to nurture student's interests, foster an appreciation for learning, enhance community responsibility, and to advance peace and human rights.

In small classes, using an integrated and practical approach, KAPS students are encouraged to become lifelong learners as they earn an accredited high school diploma.

This free charter school was founded on the belief held by renowned Texas writer, Katherine Anne Porter, that “knowledge of great art and great thought is a good in itself, not to be missed for anything.”

Admission is not based on gender, national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic, artistic, or athletic ability or the district the student would otherwise attend.
